Portrait Session at the Beach with Jaymee from Modern Muse

Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing Jaymee, the incredibly talented artist and owner of Modern Muse, at one of Washington’s beautiful beaches. The weather gave us soft light and a gentle breeze—perfect for the laid-back vibe we were aiming for. This portrait session was all about balance: we wanted a mix of candid, relaxed shots that captured Jaymee’s creative energy, along with a few clean, professional headshots she could use for her brand.

Working with fellow creatives is always inspiring, and this session felt more like a collaboration than a typical shoot. Jaymee came with a clear vision but was also open to experimenting, which gave me a chance to try out some new portrait techniques I’ve been wanting to explore. We played with movement, natural light, and even brought in some elements from the surrounding beach to create organic, storytelling photos.

As a Washington state portrait photographer, I love sessions like this—where the location, the light, and the person all come together to create something unique. Jaymee’s artistic presence made every frame feel intentional, even the candid ones. Whether she was laughing barefoot in the sand or striking a more polished pose for a headshot, the results felt very "her."
