One of my favorite things about senior portraits is creating images that reflect who a senior truly is during this exciting season of life. Connor's senior session at the Indianola Pier was the perfect example of why that matters.
From our first conversations, Connor and his mom wanted his portraits to feel personal and authentic. Rather than focusing on trends or creating images that could be anyone's, we centered the session around the things that make Connor unique. One of the most important pieces of that story is his trombone.
Music has played a huge role in Connor's high school years and will continue to be part of his future. Bringing his trombone to the session allowed us to create portraits that were meaningful, personal, and reflective of the dedication he has put into developing his talent. Some of my favorite images from the evening are the ones that showcase this important part of who he is.
The Indianola Pier provided a beautiful backdrop for the session. Beyond its waterfront views and warm evening light, the location held a special place in Connor's and his family's hearts. Over the years, they have made countless memories there together, making it the perfect choice for his senior portraits. I always encourage seniors to choose locations that have personal meaning because they help tell a deeper story. Between the familiar setting and the inclusion of his trombone, every part of Connor's session felt authentic to who he is and this season of his life.
When I work with seniors, my goal is never to force them into poses that don't feel natural. Instead, I focus on creating an experience where they can relax, have fun, and simply be themselves. The best photographs happen when seniors feel comfortable enough to let their genuine personality shine through.
My photography style is timeless, true to color, and focused on genuine moments. Years from now, I want my seniors and their families to look back at their images and remember exactly who they were during this chapter of life—not just how they looked, but what mattered to them.
Connor was thoughtful, easygoing, and a joy to photograph. Working alongside him and his mom to plan a session that felt true to who he is made the experience even more meaningful.
