There are few seasons in life as exciting as being engaged.
It's the season of dreaming about your future together, planning a wedding, imagining your first home, and soaking in the excitement of marrying your favorite person. It passes by so quickly, which is exactly why I love photographing engagement sessions.
Beautiful locations and golden light will always matter to me—they help tell your story—but they're never the reason I pick up my camera.
What I care about most is documenting your relationship in a way that feels honest. The way you naturally reach for each other's hand. The laughter that happens between photos. The quiet conversations you'll probably forget happened until years later when you look back at your gallery.
Those are the moments that become priceless.
When Madi told me why they wanted to take their engagement photos at Lake Crescent, I immediately understood why.
For Madi, this wasn't simply one of the most beautiful places in Washington, it was part of her story. She grew up spending time here with family and friends, making it the perfect place to celebrate this new season of life.
To catch the soft morning light, my husband Cory and I left Kitsap County at 3:45 in the morning and made the drive across Washington before sunrise.
Every early alarm is worth mornings like this.
When we arrived, the lake was perfectly still. The water reflected the surrounding mountains, the air was cool, and there wasn't another person around. Instead of feeling rushed or distracted, Madi and Jake had the entire shoreline to themselves.
It was peaceful.
It was unhurried.
It felt exactly the way an engagement session should.
People often ask if waking up before sunrise is really worth it.
My answer is always yes!
Not only is the light incredibly soft and beautiful, but the entire experience feels different.
Without the crowds, there's room to slow down.
To breathe.
To talk.
To simply enjoy being together.
Throughout the morning, Madi and Jake talked about their wedding, laughed together, and soaked in the excitement of everything ahead of them. After their session, they planned to spend the rest of the day relaxing at Lake Crescent together.
I couldn't think of a better way to spend an engagement session.
Because to me, your engagement photos shouldn't feel like another item on your wedding checklist.
They should feel like a really special date.
One of the things couples tell me most often after their session is,
"That was way more fun than I expected."
I LOVE hearing that.
The truth is, it isn't fun because I have some secret posing formula.
It's fun because you're spending intentional time with the person who makes you happiest!
My job is simply to create space for that to happen.
I'll guide you throughout your session so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands or where to stand, but I'm never trying to force moments that don't feel like you.
Instead of chasing perfectly posed, magazine-worthy images, I'm paying attention to your relationship.
The way you naturally smile at each other.
The way you walk together.
The way you laugh when something unexpected happens.
Those are the photographs I believe you'll treasure the most decades from now.
Lighting, composition, and beautiful scenery are incredibly important to me—they're part of telling your story well—but they should never be more important than the story itself.
Marriage is something I deeply value.
My own relationship with my husband has shaped the way I see photography and the reason I love documenting couples.
I believe your engagement is one of the most meaningful seasons you'll ever experience, and it deserves to be remembered as it truly felt, not just how it looked.
That's why every gallery I deliver is thoughtfully curated by hand.
Every image is intentionally chosen because it tells part of your story.
The quiet moments.
The joyful moments.
The in-between moments you didn't even realize were happening.
When you receive your gallery, my hope isn't simply that you think your photos are beautiful.
I hope you see the love you have for each other.
I hope you're even more excited for your wedding day.
And years from now, I hope these photographs take you right back to this season of your life—to the butterflies, the anticipation, and the joy of building a future together.
If you're considering engagement photos in Washington, Lake Crescent is easily one of my favorite locations.
With its crystal-clear water, towering evergreens, mountain views, and peaceful atmosphere, it offers an incredible backdrop without ever feeling overwhelming.
Whether you're planning a quiet sunrise session or making a full day of exploring Olympic National Park, it's a location that invites you to slow down and simply enjoy being together.
Some of the best engagement sessions aren't about finding the most famous location.
They're about choosing a place that means something to you.
Although I'm based in Kitsap County, I photograph engagement sessions throughout Washington and absolutely love traveling for meaningful locations.
Whether your story leads us to Lake Crescent, Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier, the Washington coast, the North Cascades, Seattle, Tacoma, or somewhere that's been part of your relationship from the beginning, I'd love to help create photographs that feel true to who you are.
Because the best engagement sessions aren't about perfect poses.
They're about preserving one of the most meaningful chapters of your life.
If you're looking for a Washington engagement photographer who values genuine connection over perfect posing, I'd love to hear your story.
My hope is that when your session is over, you'll leave feeling like you just spent an unforgettable morning with your favorite person—and years later, your photographs will bring you right back to how this season felt.
If that sounds like the experience you're looking for, I'd love to connect and see if we're the right fit for your engagement session or wedding day.
