Some wedding days have a way of reminding you what it's all really about. Cathi and Barry's intimate garden wedding in Poulsbo, Washington, was one of those days.
Surrounded by the beauty of their own garden and around 30 of their closest family members and friends, they celebrated in a way that felt so natural and personal. There were beautiful flowers, heartfelt vows, wonderful food, and plenty of laughter shared around the table.
It was elegant without feeling formal, relaxed without missing a single thoughtful detail, and filled with so much love.
One of the first things I noticed when I arrived was just how beautiful Cathi and Barry's garden was. Blooming roses, lush greenery, and soft floral arrangements created such a lovely setting for their intimate wedding.
Everything felt so welcoming. Their home and garden were transformed into a space where family could gather, celebrate, and enjoy the afternoon together.
What I especially loved was how effortlessly elegant everything felt. Nothing was overdone, and nothing needed to be. The garden itself was beautiful, and the little details complemented it perfectly.
There is something so meaningful about choosing to get married at home, surrounded by a place that is already part of your everyday life.
Cathi and Barry exchanged vows beneath the pergola in their garden, with their closest family and friends gathered around them.
Â
They had written their own vows, and it was such a sweet and meaningful ceremony. There were plenty of smiles, a few happy tears, and those little moments when you could see just how much their words meant to each other.
One of my favorite things to photograph during a wedding ceremony is the way everyone reacts. The smiles from family members, the tears being wiped away, and the quiet expressions of love and support. Those moments tell such an important part of the story, too.
And Cathi and Barry's ceremony was full of them.
One of the most memorable parts of Cathi and Barry's wedding was the beautiful luncheon that followed their ceremony.
Everyone gathered around two long tables in the garden to enjoy a meal together. The tables were thoughtfully arranged, the food was wonderful, and the entire afternoon had such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
But what made the luncheon especially sweet was the time spent sharing stories.
Â
Throughout the meal, Cathi and Barry's children shared personal stories and memories about their parents. Some were funny and had everyone around the table laughing, while others were incredibly touching.
I loved watching Cathi and Barry listen to their children, laughing along with the stories and taking in the sweet words being shared.
There was something so special about that. It wasn't just a wedding meal, but a chance for the people who know and love them best to reflect on the memories they've shared and celebrate this new chapter in their lives.
And of course, there were plenty of toasts, laughter, and conversations throughout the afternoon.
These are the kinds of moments I love capturing most. The little exchanges between family members, the genuine laughter, the emotional reactions, and all the things that happen naturally when everyone is simply enjoying being together.
Those are the photographs that bring you right back to how a day felt.
The garden luncheon was made even more lovely by wonderful food, a thoughtful catering team, and live guitar music from Italian-born musician and composer Andre Feriante.
With his beautiful blend of classical, flamenco, and contemporary guitar, the music was such a lovely complement to the setting.
I loved how the celebration allowed everyone to slow down. There was time to enjoy the meal, listen to the stories, visit with family, and simply take in the afternoon.
There was no need for an elaborate reception or a packed schedule. Just good food, beautiful music, and the company of people who meant so much to Cathi and Barry.
One of the things I love most about photographing intimate weddings is how much room there is for the little moments.
With a smaller guest list and a relaxed atmosphere, the focus naturally shifts toward spending time with the people you love.
Cathi and Barry's garden wedding was such a beautiful example of that. From their heartfelt vows to the stories shared around the lunch table, every part of the afternoon felt genuine and full of love.
What I'll remember most isn't just how beautiful everything looked, but how wonderful it felt to be there. Watching their family laugh together, seeing the emotion during their ceremony, and capturing all those sweet interactions made this such a special wedding to photograph.
Cathi and Barry, thank you for allowing me to be part of your beautiful day. It was truly a joy to capture these memories for you both!
