Laid-Back Senior Portraits in the PNW

As a Washington state photographer, I love capturing the natural beauty of our surroundings, and there's no better backdrop than the Pacific Northwest for senior portraits. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with the amazing Alissa, a soon-to-be graduate who wanted a relaxed, outdoor senior session reflecting her personality.

Our journey started with a phone call. We chatted about Alissa's vision for her photos – she wanted something natural, not too posed, and definitely outdoors. She shared some inspiration photos she'd found on Pinterest, which gave me a great sense of her style. We discussed locations, settling on a beautiful local park in Port Orchard with a beautiful open field and barn. I always encourage my seniors to either choose a location that's meaningful to them and/or a location that they are interested in exploring.

The day of the shoot was a little cold but overall perfect. The golden hour light bathed the landscape in a warm glow, creating a magical atmosphere. Alissa’s laid-back personality shone through as we explored the park. We captured some truly stunning images. I focused on capturing candid moments, those genuine smiles and expressions that truly reflect who she is. We also made sure to get some of the classic posed shots her family wanted. Variety is key!

We utilized the diverse scenery to create a collection of images that truly showcased Alissa's spirit. I love how the natural beauty of Washington state added to the magic of the session.

A week later, I delivered Alissa's online gallery. It was filled with a variety of images, from wide landscape shots showcasing the PNW scenery to close-ups capturing the excitement in her eyes. Hearing good feedback is always the most rewarding part of the process for me!
