There's something special about an evening spent on Whidbey Island. The open fields, quiet beaches, and golden light make it one of my favorite places in Washington for engagement photos.
For Sara and Braydon's engagement session, we spent the evening exploring the island, capturing a little bit of everything I love about photographing couples: genuine laughter, beautiful scenery, and all those little in-between moments that make a relationship their own.
When we started planning their engagement photos, Sara and Braydon knew they wanted something natural, candid, and true to their relationship.
They both love being outdoors, so Whidbey Island felt like such a fitting place to spend the evening together. We started in the open fields overlooking the water, with the prettiest golden light settling over the landscape.
One of my favorite things about photographing engagement sessions is giving couples the space to simply enjoy being together. There's no need for every moment to feel perfectly posed. Sometimes the photographs that mean the most come from walking together, laughing at each other, or simply slowing down for a few minutes.
Sara and Braydon were so easy to photograph together. Whether they were laughing, walking hand-in-hand, or stealing a quiet moment together, their connection came through so naturally.
I always want engagement sessions to feel like an experience rather than something you have to perform for the camera.
I'll offer direction when it's helpful, but I also love stepping back and letting moments unfold. The little expressions, the way you naturally reach for each other, and the laughter in between are often the photographs you end up loving most.
As the evening went on, we made our way down to the shoreline for the last of the sunlight.
The rocky beach, soft evening light, and beautiful views across the water gave us such a lovely change of scenery from the open fields earlier in the session.
These were some of my favorite moments from the evening. Everything felt a little slower as the sun began to set, and we finished with a mix of relaxed portraits and sweet, candid photographs along the water.
It's one of the things I love most about engagement photography on Whidbey Island. You can experience such a beautiful variety of landscapes in one session without losing that peaceful, intimate feeling.
More than anything, I want my couples to look back at their photographs and remember what that season of life felt like.
Your engagement is such a meaningful time, and your photographs should reflect the two of you—not just how you looked, but the way you were together.
Sara and Braydon's session was such a sweet reminder of why I love documenting these moments. I'm so thankful they trusted me to capture this part of their story.
