The Best Pacific Northwest Locations for Couples & Engagement Photos
By: Sallee Pictures
The Pacific Northwest is filled with incredible places to explore, and one of my favorite parts of photographing couples is helping them choose a location that truly feels like them. Whether you’re dreaming of mountain views, coastal beaches, downtown charm, or somewhere quiet and adventurous, Washington has so many beautiful spots that make the perfect backdrop for documenting your relationship.
Locally, one of my absolute favorite places for couples sessions is Point No Point Lighthouse in Hansville. If you’re in Kitsap County, it’s hard to beat. The variety there is amazing — beach views, driftwood, grassy areas, open shoreline, and some of the dreamiest sunset light. It gives you stunning Pacific Northwest scenery without needing to travel far from home, which makes it such an easy and beautiful option for engagement photos or a laid-back couples session. My favorite time of year to photograph there is late spring through early fall when the sunsets are extra beautiful and the evenings stay warm enough to really slow down and enjoy the experience.
Another favorite is Port Townsend. There is so much to explore together, from the charm of downtown to the coastline at Fort Worden State Park. One of my favorite things about sessions there is how much variety you can get in one evening. You can wander downtown streets together, grab coffee, laugh your way through little side streets, then drive just a few minutes to the beach for sunset photos by the water. It always turns into such a fun, relaxed date-night kind of session. Summer and early fall are especially beautiful there with warmer weather, glowing sunsets, and all the coastal charm that makes Port Townsend so special.
If you’re dreaming of mountain views, Hurricane Ridge is breathtaking. It’s surprisingly easy to access and offers some of the most beautiful mountain backdrops in Washington. The open views and golden light up there make photos feel adventurous, intimate, and cinematic. Late summer into early fall is my favorite time for Hurricane Ridge because the roads are clear, the wildflowers are often still around, and the mountain views are usually at their best.
Another location high on my list for couples is Whidbey Island — especially Fort Ebey State Park. Between the dramatic cliffs, beach access, and stunning views of the water, it feels straight out of a romance film. If you love photos that feel windswept, emotional, and full of movement, this location is perfect. And if we’re taking the ferry over together, bonus points for ferry photos along the way. I especially love Whidbey in late spring, summer, and early fall when the cliffs are green, the sunsets are beautiful, and the beach feels extra peaceful.
There are also so many dream locations I still have on my list to photograph couples at. Since moving to Washington, I’ve been slowly exploring more of the Pacific Northwest, and there are still places I would absolutely love to shoot at in the near future. Mount Rainier National Park is at the top of that list, along with places like North Cascades National Park and even a downtown Seattle couples session. Exploring the city together, grabbing coffee, wandering the streets, and documenting your relationship in a candid way sounds like such a fun experience.
No matter the location, my goal is always the same — creating photos that feel natural, timeless, and true to your relationship. I want your session to feel less like a photoshoot and more like an experience you genuinely enjoy together. Whether that looks like wandering the beach at sunset, taking the ferry over to Whidbey, exploring downtown streets together, or chasing mountain views, I would absolutely love to help you plan something that feels meaningful to you both. If one of these locations feels like your kind of adventure, I’d be so excited to document it for you.
